Brigid Collins - Artist, Illustrator and Educator

I am an artist, illustrator and educator. I run creative workshops for all ages and am also a lecturer at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, in Dundee, Scotland.

Passionate in my desire to forge relationships between images and poetry, in particular, I create paintings and assemblages in 2 and 3D, often in collaboration with writers, poets and other artists, or to commission and also exhibit regularly. Underpinning all of my work is the joy of making things, of handling materials and responding to their unique qualities and capabilities.

Publications have included ‘Room to Rhyme’ (2004) a lavishly illustrated edition of the text of a speech given by the poet, Seamus Heaney, “a place where thought happens…” (2006) an Artist’s Book with poet, Larry Butler and jewellery designer, Teena Ramsay and “For A’ That” (2009) an anthology of contemporary writing made in response to Robert Burns, with contributions from Janice Galloway, Kirsty Gunn, Bill Manhire, DBC Pierre and others.

The book forms and 3D constructions that I craft tend to be intimate in scale - as a guide, these may be held in the hand - and embody a balance between strength and fragility, while my paintings and 2D mixed-media works range in scale from 20 x 20 cm to 60 x 100 cm and, occasionally, larger, as in some of my commissioned pieces. Prices start at £150 and commissions are individually priced, depending on both the materials and scale being employed. Please get in touch to discuss.
