"Enduring, Common IV"

"Enduring, Common IV" is the fourth in a series of four paintings, each incorporating a fragment of a poem, "Nasturtiums", by Diana Hendry. This poem was their 'Poem of the Year' at Dr. Neil's Garden in Duddingston, Edinburgh and I responded to it in the form of this series of watercolours, painted onto watercolour paper that has been blind embossed with the cover of an old edition of a a book about plant physiology. I added pure pigment to the backgrounds, after washing away much of the detail and highlighted the text with gold-leaf. The series was included in my exhibition,"Such frail enclaves: things remembered, made things, things unmade...', at Thompson's Tower in the garden, in September 2017. Size: 297 x 420 mm. For sale separately, or as a series. Limited Edition Giclee prints are also available. Prices on application.
